V.J. Rush is the pioneer wagon builder and blacksmith of New Market.  He had lately taken a partner in the person of his  son, Edgar.  They do all sorts of repairing in wood and iron, are  specialists on farm machinery and engines.  Mr. Rush has been  in business for 20 years and in plow work is a past master. In  addition to his shop he operates a small farm.

Note: Verdaman J. Rush had three sons: Edgar; Charles and Frank, as well as daughters, Alice and Dora.  He passed away on the 13th of April 1910 at age 71 (born Oct 1838) and there was a call in the local newspaper (CWR) for all available K of P lodge members to march to his home to pay respects and under "City Briefs" of the same newspaper, "Funeral services for the late VJ Rush will be held at the residence, 902 W. Main Street, at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.  The Rev. TP Woodson, pastor of Trinity M.E. Church will have charge. Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.  He and wife, Ruphina had 6 children, one dying in childhood.
